Idea cellular moves TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal) against trai on supporting the reliance jio's welcome offer, live from January,2017. Idea is saying that the welcome offer from reliance jio is a violation of the rules period of 90 days, which is against the norms. Last week, Airtel approached TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal) against TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) for allowing Reliance jio to continues its promotional offers beyond 90 days limit.
The two incumbents have alleged that Jio should have discontinued its free voice and data offers by December 3, which according to them, is the last day for the period of 90 days for which any operator may dole out a promotional offer which started September 5.
They have alleged that Jio under the guise of a different nomenclature - 'Happy New Year' which followed the 'Welcome Offer' - has continued to offer the free voice and data offer till March end.
Jio has previously said that it hasn't violated any rules. Trai has said it is looking into the second promotional offer - Happy New Year - for any rule violations after having allowed the first one to be be offered till December 31 for those subscribing to the Jio network till December 3.
