The Mukesh Ambani-led telco, which had launched commercial services on September 5 with the launch of “Welcome Offer”, is aiming to get 100 million customers in the shortest time possible. The 100 million user base will be equivalent to about 38% of market leader Bharti Airtel’s 260 million subscribers in the country.

The 4G entrant is offering free voice and capped data services along with free access to its digital services like Live TV, Video On Demand and music service and cloud storage.

In a recent presentation, RelianceIndustries, the parent of Jio, said that the telco was adding 90-95% subscribers through Aadhaar based eKYC across 4,059 towns and cities. The presentation revealed that Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh were Reliance Jio Infocomm’s top two telecom circles,
The telco has 4G coverage in 18,000 cities and over 2 lakh villages, covering over 70% population coverage currently. It plans to cover 90% population coverage by next year.

ET earlier reported that Reliance Jio was preparing to launch feature phones with 4G capability, creating a new category of mobile devices in India in a bid to attract millions of users. The telco is looking to price these phones at Rs 1,000 and bundled them with unlimited voice and video calling, besides digital content.
