Train about to launch MyCall app for call quality rating

Trai plan to launch a new app named Mycall for rating the call quality for different networks like jio, airtel, idea etc. By launching this new app trai can easily evaluate the call quality of outgoing and incoming calls.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) ​chairman RS Sharma said that the MyCall app will work on a crowd sourcing platform where users will be able to choose the number of calls they want to rate, while the rating will be between one-star to five-star, the latter being very good quality.

​He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Trai's bi-decadal seminar on broadcasting.​

"We'll launch the MyCall app by the month end, we're leveraging crowd sourcing as we want the consumers to assess the quality of the call. India has ​1.2 billion mobile phone users and even if a small part of them can provide us feedback, it will be good data," he added. Trai's MySpeed app, which collects data speeds from consumers across the country, also works on the same principles.

Sharma said that data on Trai's analytics portal which has data speeds, tower wise call drop rate and strength, and network utilization, and that on MySpeed app will be made available for third party use, such as researchers and other agencies.

For doing the call quality assessment, the app will have several parameter disclosures as well as settings. For example, consumers will be able to choose whether they want to rate all calls, or whether a percentage of that, and when they do rate, they will have to disclose whether it is indoors, outdoors or specify the geographic location.

The regulator added that it will improve the existing do not disturb (DND) app.

People aware of the plan on improving DND said that the app will have additional intelligence built in, to spot spam text messages amongst all text messages coming to a consumer, and suggest to the consumer that it may be spam, in a way helping users to filter out spam messages.

The enhancement will however be limited to just text messages as the analytics will not be able to preempt the kind of calls coming in.
