Reliance Jio is likely to soon offer new mobile numbers beginning with “6” in Rajasthan, Assam and Tamil Nadu telecom circles, following the allotment of new MSC codes in the 6-series mobile numbers by the Department of Telecom, TelecomTalk reported.
The DoT has allotted 60010-60019 MSC codes in Rajasthan, 60020-60029 MSC codes in Assam and 60030-60039 in Tamil Nadu, the report said. Jio has also got the 9-series MSC codes in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, and the 8-series MSC codes in Kolkata and Maharashtra.
Bharti Airtel has also been allotted the 9-series MSC codes (90680-90689) in UP West telecom zone, the report added.
India’s telecom subscriber base crossed 1.12 billion in November last year with 21.02 million new addition. The growth was led Reliance Jio, which has now garnered over 80 million 4G subscribers in India, and is set to get 100 million subscribers by this fiscal end.
Reliance Jio alone added over 16.2 million in November taking its total subscriber base to 51.87 million within three months of launching its commercial 4G services.
According to the Trai data, Jio became leader in mobile broadband segment in November.
A recent Credit Suisse report said that Jio’s network coverage is significantly ahead of the other operators. It however added that Jio trails Airtel in 4G speeds.
The brokerage had said that the Mukesh Ambani-led telco is currently carrying 90 per cent plus of all data traffic in the country. The 4g entrant’s network capacity share is closer to 35 percent.
