Trai extends date for views on closure of access services

India’s telecom regulator Monday extended the date for receiving views and counter views on issues related to closure of access services, a consultation paper on which was issued on November 30 last year.

“Keeping in view the request of stakeholders for further extension of time for sending their comments, it has been decided to extend the last date for submission of written comments up to February 6 2017 and for counter-comments up to February 13, 2017,” the regulator said.

“No further requests for extension would be considered.”

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had issued a consultation paper on the need for modification of the Unified Access Service License (UASL), and Cable Modem termination System (CMTS) licences in line with those licensees who have liberalised their administratively allocated spectrum.

The paper also discussed whether discontinuation of services being provided through a particular technology, such as CDMA, be treated same as discontinuation of any of the service under a service authorisation. The regulator also sought stakeholder views on the modifications required in licenses conditions to keep pace with the developments in the telecom market.

The last date for receiving was initially set for January 9 and January 16, respectively, which was then extended to January 23 and January 30, respectively.
