India’s third largest telecom operator, Idea Cellular on Tuesday said that its 4G is available in 1,579 villages and towns across all 30 districts of Karnataka which covers around 37% of the population of the state.
The service covers key towns of Bangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Davanagere, Tumkur, Hassan, Udupi-Manipal, Shimoga-Bhadravati, Bellary, Bijapur, Raichur, Bidar, Hospet, Gadag-Betigeri, Chitradurga, Kolar, Chikmagalur etc.
The company in a statement said that it plans to almost double its 4G sites by March’17. The telco said that it has invested in upgrading network infrastructure and laying optical fibre cable in Karnataka.
“Idea has successfully transitioned to become a pan-India wireless broadband service provider, readying our over 186 million customers for the Digital age. With nearly 900 MHz of spectrum in both FDD and TDD bands, Idea is preparing itself to substantially enhance customer’s Wireless Data experience and capture a higher share of the exponentially growing Mobile Data business,” said Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular.
“As one of the leading mobile operators in Karnataka, Idea continues to invest in the market and lead the digital experience for our customers,” he added.
The company is offering 10 GB data at a recharge of Rs 245 (effective price of Rs 25/GB) valid for 28 days to customers buying new 4G handsets.
At Rs 499, existing customers can get 10 GB data (effective price of Rs50/GB) valid for 28 days. This offer can be availed unlimited times. The telco has also introduced local Idea call rates at 10ps/min valid for 28 days for Rs 23.

In the Karnataka region, Idea Cellular has a customer service footprint with over 690 exclusive Idea stores, over 94 lakh subscribers through a network of 12,948 sites.
