Idea now offers 250% more data on upfront bundled data pack: Report

India’s third largest telco, Idea Cellular has revised its data offers and will now be offering 250% more data after its new launched data pack with upfront payment received a cold response, a report by Telecom Talk said.

Idea Cellular customers can now get 15 GB of free data against the upfront fee of Rs 1498 where earlier it was 6 GB data. The company has also increased its freebies on Rs 748 and Rs 496 pack where customers can get data benefits at a cheaper rate in comparison to current market rates.

The upfront payment data packs may only be attractive to those with high data consumption every month. Therefore, such data packs which were launched by the top three telcos after Jio’s entry have failed to gain traction as paying an upfront amount of Rs 1500 strikes off as expensive to people.

As per a recent development, Idea has also started offering long validity data packs for postpaid customers. The long validity packs come in two denominations- Rs 500 and Rs 1500. Under the Rs 500 pack, customers will get 2 GB instant data valid for 30 days. The subscribers can then avail 1 GB data at recharge of Rs 125. The total validity of the offer is 6 months.

As part of the Rs 1500 offer, customers will get 6 GB instant data valid for 30 days. The subscribers can then avail 1 GB data at recharge of Rs 50. The total validity of the offer is 1 year.

Similar moves can be expected from other telcos as they seem to indulge in a cut throat competition to retain their customers after Reliance Jio’s entry.
